Tolbooth Café Concert – Richard Buchanan

Saturday 18th November at 1:30pm & 2:30pm

Richard Buchanan was a founding member and bass player in Edinburgh’s The Lost Soul Band in the early nineties. They released three albums and raised quite a following in Scotland and beyond. Richard took a long break from music after the band split up but has been writing songs, recording and performing them for the past seven or eight years.

Richard’s songs often portray a perspective on life and love that is at times weary and punch-drunk but always hopeful and compassionate; cautionary tales for youth and shared experiences for those who have matured through some of the turmoils of life. The songs often lean in towards aspects of country, folk and rock for inspiration but always retain a core sensibility that is all Richard’s.

Richard has recently graduated from being a solo artist and now performs with a drummer and bass player as the Richard Buchanan Trio. The trio are currently preparing material for recording at the start of 2024. Richard will be returning to solo performance for this Tolbooth Café Concert with songs from his back catalogue as well as new songs to be performed for the very first time.
