special free Café Concert as part of Refugee Week 2024
On Sat 22nd June the Tolbooth in partnership with Forth Valley Welcome will host a special free Café Concert as part of Refugee Week 2024. Join us for a celebration of the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Our musical performances will come from Aref Ghorbani and Karina Cherviakova. Aref is an Iranian trained classical musician, living in Scotland. He has an MSc. in Global Migrations and Social Justice from Glasgow University, and has been working in the refugee sector since 2016. You may have spotted Aref working and playing with award winning project Musicians in Exile or performing in numerous festivals, including Refugee Festival Scotland, COP26, Edinburgh Fringe, and Edinburgh International Festival! Karina Cherviakova is a singer, vocal teacher and conductor. She has been practising vocals with children and adults for more than 10 years. Now she is the artistic director and conductor of the Edinburgh Ukrainian Choir.
As well as musical performances there will be cultural presentations, interactive workshops and activities – see the full schedule below.
Our café will be serving their usual delicious selection of toasties, soup, cakes and coffees so be sure to come along and secure a table.
