‘The Art of Posters’ – Exhibition

Accomplished Stirling based artist David Galletly has designed a unique illustrated poster celebrating 20 years of Tolbooth.   This will be used online throughout the year, and a limited run of Riso prints will be available for sale at Tolbooth.

 

 

 

 

Exhibition

In June we will host an exhibition of poster art at Tolbooth Gallery featuring David Galletly’s commissioned piece, and a selection of his poster work for musicians, and lost map records label.

David Galletly – Is an artist, illustrator and graphic designer based in Stirling, and working internationally.  David has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across the UK and overseas, and  also heads up the art direction of Lost Map, a record label launched by The Pictish Trail in 2013. As part of Tolbooth’s celebrations of our 20^th birthday, David was commissioned to create a unique poster design to mark the occasion. The exhibition will feature David’s commissioned piece, as well as showcasing some of his previous poster design and illustration work.

As part of this same exhibition, Tolbooth will also show some poster designs created by Forth Valley College students, who have designed posters celebrating 20 years of Stirling’s city status.

Forth Valley College Creative Industries

2022 will mark 20 years of Stirling being a city but its history can be dated back as far as 973 BC. The HND Graphic Design students from Forth Valley College have designed and created a series of posters to celebrate Stirling and its rich history.

Students generated individual responses to a diverse range of themes based on Stirling’s history. They were each commissioned to create a contemporary poster design. Their designs were to include use of a distinct colour palette and a dynamic use of image and typography.

Students explored a wide variety of themes, ranging from myth and folklore to medieval times all the way up to current events in Stirling. Some themes included Scottish poetry discovered at Stirling Library, façades and found typography around Stirling and buildings of importance from the Stirling area. Other students explored historic witchcraft trials in Stirling, the famous three ghosts of Stirling castle and the notable Stirling wolf.

Each poster is distinctive, contemporary and highlights the skills held by the 2021/22 cohort of graphic designers at Forth Valley College.

In 2022 Tolbooth turns 20 years old.   To celebrate we’ll be hosting a series of 20 special events across the year, ranging from music, art, film, festivals and workshops. Each of these events will be listed on our Festivals page, check back as we’ll be announcing more soon!
